How do I keep my candles working at peak performance?
Keep the lid on your tin when not in use; this helps keep debris out and the scent in.
Trim the wick to 1/4” before each use; this removes excess carbon that has accumulated in the wick tip and helps keep the flame from becoming too large.
Clean out any debris (wick fragments, matches, dust, etc.) before lighting your candle.
Do not leave your tins in direct sunlight for extended periods of time; warm wax will become soft and not burn correctly.
Store your candles in a cool, dry place if not used for an extended amount of time.
My wick is curling over while burning. Should I be concerned?
No, this is perfectly normal and is what the wick is designed to do. This feature keeps the wick from becoming too tall and creating a larger flame. This curl needs to be trimmed off before the next burn.
Do I really need to extinguish my candles after 4 hours?
It is highly recommended that you do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time for a couple of reasons.
Candle containers (metal, glass, etc.) are constantly absorbing heat while the candle burns. The 4 hour limit makes sure the containers do not become so hot as to cause burns from touching the container or for the container to fail.
Carbon builds up in the wick as the candle burns. Too much carbon can cause the flame to grow too large and unstable. Excessive carbon also leads to excessive soot being released into the air.
What can I do with the tin after the candle has burnt down to the end?
Empty, cooled tins can be cleaned out and used to hold various small items such as paperclips, coins, cotton balls, etc.
To clean out the remaining wax:
Use paper towels to remove any remaining sections of wax
Firmly grasp the metal wick tab at the bottom with pliers and pull the tab free (The tab can be placed in recycling)
Use rubbing alcohol and paper towels to remove remaining wax residue
Empty, cooled tins can also be placed in recycling bins.
